SCDOT WORK ZONE TRAFFIC CONTROL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS EFFECTIVE 9/1/2013.


SCDOT has implemented new, mandatory and recommended work zone traffic control training requirements for all contractors and subcontractors performing roadway work under contract with the South Carolina Department of Transportation effective 9/1/2013.

WHAT ARE THE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS?

Mandatory Training Requirements:

Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control Training - applies to any employee whose job duty responsibilities impact or involve any of or all of the components of a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) must successfully complete an Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control Training Program that include a primary component, "Temporary Traffic Control Plan" and the secondary components, "Transportation Operations", and "Public Information Plan".

* A refresher course will be mandated every 5 years.

Who Does This Apply To?
Any employee whose job duty responsibilities impact or involve any of or all of the components of a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) including:

Supervision of field installation, maintenance and removal of any or all components of the TMP
Design & development of revisions to an existing TMP
Design and development of a new or alternate TMP
Any decision-making responsibilities regarding the TMP
All employees must successfully complete an Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control Training Program that include a primary component, "Temporary Traffic Control Plan" and the secondary components, "Transportation Operations", and "Public Information Plan". *A refresher course will be mandated every 5 years.
SOUTH CAROLINA D.O.T. has additional regulation that exceeds the Federal minimum standards put forth in the 2009 (MUTCD).  Greenville Safety can advise you of the specific regulations and help you compete for SCDOT contracts.

Why Should You Take This ATSSA-Approved Flagger Certification Course?

This ATSSA-Approved Flagger Certification course  is endorsed by the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) and the Federal Highway Administration. This course is based on the MUTCD Federal requirements and includes discussion of specific state requirements.

This course allows your flaggers to meet this requirement, so they will be certified to flag in other states as well. The class includes a 25-question multiple choice exam and a flagger demonstration (dexterity test). Students will receive their ATSSA Flagger Certification card the day of the course (upon passing the exam).
* Price of $75.00 for groups of 10 or Smaller groups for municipalities, Law Enforcement and Firefighters.
